I feel like i’m an expert at moving after the amount of times we have moved house, when me and my fiancé moved out, we literally moved from the south to the north of the country and we had to do it all ourselves. We didn’t hire any moving company’s or anything but I wish we did now! It was very hard doing it ourselves.
It can be a very stressful and uncomfortable time but it can also be a very exciting experience. Here are some tips to hopefully help ease some of the stress.
Declutter Your House
Decluttering your home is a great thing to do before you move, ask your self do I need this? Am I going to use it? If the answer is no, then get rid of it. The space you will accumulate after a good old declutter will be 100% worth it. If you are looking to get a brand new mattress for your new home, you may be wondering what to do with the old one and asking yourself Can I put a mattress in a skip?
We collect so many different things over the years and sometimes just forget to throw things out, I sometimes feel like I am a bit of a hoarder. I would love to be minamilistic with my things but in the reality I am just not like that.
Start Collecting Boxes
It is a really good idea a few months before you are moving to start collecting boxes, the amount of boxes we use when we move is phenomenal! Especially with a toddler as well.
You can check your local grocery stores, facebook groups or see if neighbours or family have any boxes they are getting rid of.
We actually used banana boxes to move once, I don’t recommend that.
Wrap Fragile Items
It is sad how many photo frames and fragile items we have broken in our home moves, I really suggest wrapping anything fragile in a towel, newspaper or blankets. It is really worth it, other wise you may get to your new house with a box full of shattered glass.
Write Room Names
Something I will be doing in our next move is writing the names of the rooms on our boxes, we have been very lazy in the past with our moving and just thrown random items in different box.
This time I will be writing the room names and loading the boxes with them items, it will make such a big difference when it comes to unpacking.
Clean up
Cleaning up as you go is the best way when it comes to moving, because then you are not left with a load of cleaning to do at the end of packing your house. Keep the rooms tidy whilst your packing them and give the house a hoover as you make your way around the rooms.
Pack The Essentials
A really big tip is to pack your essentials in a bag and keep it with you, lets say you use a moving company and you get to your new home and you want to clean the house or use the bathroom.
Keep them kind of products like hand wash, hand towels, toilet roll etc in a bag so you can go straight to them.
Use A moving Company if it is to much
I did say earlier next time we will be using a moving company. It was honestly just way to much work for us whilst we had a young baby at the time too, Big Deahls Movers are there to take that stress away from you.
Especially when you are doing a really big move, you sometimes just need that helping hand.
Regardless of if you are moving nearby or if you are looking for Rancho Cucamonga California long distance movers area, they can pack and move you with out all the stress.
Arrange Care For Children And Pets
Now that my little girl is older I would be arranging someone to look after her whilst we get moved over, as well as our two cats. I think it makes it less stressful for the whole family.
Once we are in the new place, then we can bring over the children and the pets.
Notify Important Contacts
Notifying important contacts before the move can take a lot of the stress of you in the long run. Maybe let your car insurance, home insurance, pet insurance etc contacts know a week before so you can just focus on moving.
Moving can be exciting but it can also be very stressful and I hope some of these tips for moving House have helped you for your big move.
